Blu Smith holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Auburn University and received her Master of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in New York. She also completed a Master of Entrepreneurship from the University of Otago in New Zealand.

As a painter, Blu has placed in regional juried art shows, and her work is in many private collections. For ten years in New York City, Blu was involved in developing the downtown art arena. She helped establish and promote small art galleries and performance spaces throughout the city and was instrumental in the effort to organize the use of abandoned buildings and schools as art centers on Manhattan’s lower east side. Since returning south, Blu has served on faculty at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Athens State University, Calhoun Community College and Watkins College of Art and Design in Nashville, Tennessee.
